You have spent days comparing Klaviyo and Omnisend. Read the reviews, watched the demos, and still not sure which to pick? The problem is not the information: it is that most comparisons tell you what each tool does, but not what kind of brand each one is for.

The difference that matters between them is not in the feature list. It is in the philosophy: Klaviyo is built on data, Omnisend on ease of use. One gives you more power and more depth. The other gets you up and running faster and with less friction. Neither is better in the abstract, and choosing wrong has a real cost: migrating platform later means rebuilding flows, segments and team training.

At STRAT we are an Agency Partner of both, precisely so we do not have to sell you one in particular. We look at your case, your platform and your growth plan, and recommend the one that fits. This comparison follows the same logic: no waffle, no default favourite.

What you need to know if you are in a hurry

If you do not have time to read the whole article, here is the summary:

Choose Omnisend if you want to get a popup, newsletters and standard flows running quickly, at a contained cost and with no learning curve. Also if you sell with few sends and a lot of care, like a luxury brand.

Choose Klaviyo if you are going to segment on fine-grained data, build advanced flows and lean on predictive analytics. Especially if you are on Shopify and plan to scale hard.

Where they come from: two different ways of growing

Klaviyo: from data to accelerated growth

Klaviyo was founded in 2012 in Boston, with a clear mission: to help ecommerce brands use their own data. It started as a pure analytics tool. The founders saw that merchants did not know how to make the most of the information they had, so they built a CDP (Customer Data Platform) with marketing automation on top. They bootstrapped for three years, prioritising product-market fit.

What changed everything was funding. Klaviyo has raised $778M across six rounds and went public in 2023. That means accelerated growth, constant investor pressure, and the need to show every quarter that user numbers and ARR are climbing. It is the reason it passed 100% year-on-year growth in 2020, and the reason prices adjust regularly: return-on-investment expectations have to be met.

Omnisend: organic growth with no investor pressure

Omnisend was founded in 2014 in Lithuania as Soundest, and is a private company that has raised just $1.73M in a single funding round. That is it. No Series A, no Series B, no IPO on the horizon. It grew to 250 employees and 150,000 stores using the platform without having to answer to investment funds.

That difference explains its philosophy: intuitive, predictable, "boring but effective" (their own words). They do not need to innovate aggressively every quarter, they have no pressure to scale at any cost, and it shows: their product and pricing decisions respond to what their users actually need, not to investor targets.

    The practical implication

Klaviyo is a platform that keeps evolving fast because it has to: there is investor money waiting for a return. That means advanced features, but also regular price changes. Omnisend is more stable: fewer changes, fewer surprises, predictable pricing.

That difference shows up especially in the pricing section further down. It is no coincidence.

Start with what matters: what are you going to do with it?

Before looking at prices or features, be clear about the use you will give it. This is the single most important thing in deciding which platform suits you best.

Omnisend is more than enough if your plan is this: a popup with a welcome discount, weekly newsletters and a handful of standard flows every ecommerce should have: welcome, abandoned cart, post-purchase, back in stock, sunset and winback. For that, Omnisend is excellent. You build it fast, you understand it without a manual, and it works.

Klaviyo shines if you need to: segment on specific behavioural data, build advanced flows with many branches and conditions, personalise at product level and lean on predictive analytics (probability of repeat purchase, estimated lifetime value, churn risk). If your strategy depends on making the most of data, the difference shows immediately.

    The luxury example

We always give the same example. A luxury brand does not sell a €2,000 bag because you send it a browse-abandonment email. There, what matters is the experience: careful communication, few newsletters, simple segments and elegance over volume.

In a case like that, setting up the whole Klaviyo data machine adds little. The brand will not use half of it. Omnisend more than covers what it needs, without overpaying or complicating things for the team. More tool is not better strategy. The best platform is the one that fits how you sell.

Integrations: it changes with your platform

Here is a nuance many people overlook: the right tool also depends on where your store is built.

Omnisend integrates natively with Shopify (where it holds a very high rating on the App Store), WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Wix, PrestaShop and Magento, among others. It is a very comfortable option if you are on WooCommerce, Wix or PrestaShop and want a clean integration without wrestling with APIs.

Klaviyo integrates with the same main platforms, but its relationship with Shopify is especially deep (Shopify is a part-owner of Klaviyo). That integration gives it access to a level of customer and behavioural data it makes more of than anyone.

The practical read: if you are on Shopify and going to lean hard on data, Klaviyo goes straight to the bone. If you are on WooCommerce, Wix or PrestaShop and looking for simplicity, Omnisend has you covered.

    Segmentation, automation and data

Both allow unlimited segments and visual automations with conditions and branches.

Where they separate is depth. Klaviyo segments on your full behavioural history, in real time, and adds predictive analytics: it tells you when a customer is likely to buy again, what they are worth over time, or how likely they are to leave. Its A/B testing is also far more complete: you can test almost anything, not just the subject line.

Omnisend covers the essentials very well and for most brands is more than enough. What you should not expect is that depth of data or that testing capability.

    The editor: speed versus control

It is a detail people usually discover late, once they are inside the platform.

Omnisend has a clean, quick editor, with ready-to-use templates and gamified capture forms (the famous "wheel of fortune") that work well for growing a list. Perfect if what you want is to get campaigns running without investing time in design.

Klaviyo offers more control: dynamic product feeds that update in real time (prices, availability, images), conditional logic to personalise content by customer profile, and A/B testing of any element of the email, not just the subject. Since 2024 it also includes generative AI tools for drafting subject lines and copy. More of a learning curve, but more real personalisation capability.

Price: how much, and when it jumps

Both have a free plan up to 250 contacts and 500 emails a month. One detail: Omnisend's free plan includes landing pages, Klaviyo's does not.

From there, Omnisend is cheaper in the small and mid tiers, and rises more predictably because it bills by number of contacts. Klaviyo starts a little pricier and, above all, bills by active profiles: since 2025 it counts every active profile in your account, not just the ones you send to. If you have a large list and only work part of it, you pay for all of it anyway. And in peaks like Black Friday, when subscribers pour in at once, the bill jumps a tier.

The tipping point is clear on the chart: up to 15,000 contacts the two are close, but beyond that Klaviyo gets more expensive far more steeply. At 50,000 contacts, for example, we are talking about roughly $413/mo on Omnisend against roughly $720/mo on Klaviyo.

    Monthly price: Omnisend vs Klaviyo

Omnisend's Standard plan vs Klaviyo's Email plan, by number of contacts (USD/mo, excluding SMS and add-ons).

It is not that Klaviyo is simply "expensive". It is that its cost scales with your list, and that has to be on your radar before you grow. The right question is not "which is cheaper today", but "how much will it cost me when my list doubles".

    Other factors people forget

Beyond price and power, there are details that shape the day-to-day:

    • Reporting and history: Klaviyo gives you your account's full history from day one, with revenue attribution by flow, campaign and segment. It also includes Smart Send Time, which learns the optimal send moment for each subscriber. Omnisend limits data to the last 18 months and reserves advanced reporting for its higher plan.
    • Deliverability: Klaviyo includes active sender-reputation monitoring, bounce alerts and tools to detect spam risk. Omnisend covers the essentials of deliverability, but without that layer of active diagnosis.
    • Support: Omnisend offers 24/7 chat and email support even on the free plan, and tends to be more accessible for small accounts. Klaviyo provides support for the first 60 days and, after that, until you move to a paid plan, you rely on its help centre, which is extensive but not immediate.
    • Forms and capture: Omnisend includes gamified forms (its wheel of fortune) and free landing pages. Klaviyo has good popups, including exit-intent ones.

    So which do I choose?

Choose Omnisend if: you want a welcome popup, newsletters and standard flows (welcome, cart, browse, post-purchase, back in stock, sunset, winback), you value simplicity and a contained cost, your team is small and you do not yet need ultra-advanced segmentation. Also if you sell in an elegant way with few sends, like a luxury brand.

Choose Klaviyo if: you are going to segment on fine-grained data, build advanced flows and make the most of predictive analytics, you are on Shopify and want the deepest integration, and you plan to scale hard with the resources to exploit it.

And a tip we always give: think two years out, not just today. Unlike migrations between ecommerce platforms, changing email marketing tool is not especially complex: contacts export, flows get rebuilt and the team adapts quickly. What you do lose is the history: analytics, accumulated results, past tests. None of that migrates. Choose where you want to be, not just where you are, because starting from zero on data always has a cost.

How we see it at STRAT

We have no default favourite. We are an Agency Partner of both, precisely so we can recommend the one that fits each brand, not the one we happen to sell. We look at your platform, your use case, your data maturity and your growth plan, and from there we build the flows that generate the most revenue, whether in Klaviyo or Omnisend. And always reporting on what reaches your P&L, not on the tool's isolated metrics.

    Frequently asked questions

Klaviyo or Omnisend, which is better? Neither is better in the abstract. Omnisend stands out for simplicity and cost on standard use cases: popup, newsletters and basic flows. Klaviyo stands out on data, advanced segmentation and predictive analytics for brands that make the most of information. The right one depends on what you will do with it.

Which is cheaper? Omnisend is usually cheaper in the small and mid tiers, and its pricing is more predictable. Klaviyo scales by active profiles, and from around 15,000 contacts it gets more expensive more steeply.

Which suits me if I am on Shopify? Both integrate with Shopify. Klaviyo has the deepest data-level integration (Shopify is a part-owner of Klaviyo), so if you are going to lean hard on segmentation and data, it fits very well. If you want simplicity, Omnisend also works perfectly on Shopify.

What platform does a luxury brand use? In many cases, Omnisend. A luxury brand prioritises a careful experience, few newsletters and simple segments, and does not need Klaviyo's whole data machine. More tool does not mean better strategy.

Can I use Klaviyo and Omnisend at the same time? Technically yes, but it makes no sense. You would have customer data duplicated across two platforms, flows in conflict, and you would pay two subscriptions. Choose one and make it work well.

Can I migrate from one platform to the other later? Yes, and it is simpler than it sounds compared with an ecommerce migration. Contacts export and import without much trouble. What does not migrate is the history: already-optimised flows, accumulated results, past tests. If you need to make the change, at STRAT we handle Klaviyo to Omnisend and Omnisend to Klaviyo migrations.

Choosing between Klaviyo and Omnisend is only the first step, because the result depends on how you build the flows, the segmentation and the measurement once you are inside the tool. At STRAT we are a Klaviyo Partner agency and an Omnisend Partner agency, so we work with whichever fits your case and build the flows that generate the most revenue, always reporting on what reaches your P&L.

I founded STRAT with one fixed idea: that ecommerce marketing should be measured in profit, not in metrics that look good in a report. I have spent years deep in paid media, email marketing and Shopify, and I have learned that profitable growth does not come from any miracle channel, but from making all the pieces work together. Today I help ecommerce brands scale without losing sight of the only thing that matters: making real money.
